Assignment 5: Virtual essay 30%

Assignment 5: Virtual essay 30%

The very first photograph we are going to discuss about was shot by Simon Bruty.  He’s known for his exceptional works in the sport industry, taking photographs when it matters. His photographs express exceptional emphasis in the critical moments whether it be the moment of scoring the game winning goal or celebrating your championship with your family. The picture shown is the victory, the New Orleans Saints achieved over the Indianapolis Colt in the Super Bowl XLIV. This photograph captures the joy and happiness displayed by Drew Brees, and his family. At first glanced of the photo, the audience is instantly able to feel and imagine the feelings of that environment.

For the second picture, I chose one of the greatest photographers of his time and we have discuss about him before, Henri Cartier-Bresson. He had a sharp-shooter’s ability to capture a photographs at the right moment, having precisions eyes for elements of design, and his literate observations about the theory and practice of photography crafted him into a legendary photojournalist phenomenon. Henri started off as a painter, and then progressed and eventually becoming a photojournalist. We could see many of his photojournalistic work resemble his paintings. This picture I feel supports his trait of having the element of design, as you can see the subjects of the picture, and how the picture was taken, such as the angle and distance of the picture to the subject. It gives you a feeling of mysterious to put your own imagination to work.

The third picture that I chose is the fashion photograph. A comprehensive overview of the field, Fashion Photography: A Complete Guide to the Tools and Techniques of the Trade by Bruce Smith talks highly about many of the challenges fashion photographers have to overcome on a regular basis. Smith talks about the procedure to finding and dealing with models, selecting and deploying equipment, scouting locations, finding and handling clients, building a portfolio and marketing a business. He’s best at offering how-to instructions for specific projects and for developing inclusive skill sets to achieve success in the fashion industry. He offers many tutorials such Adobe Photoshop skills in improving raw images with make up in photoshop and many more, these skill sets are a must for any fashion photographers to become successful.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Andrew Prokos, is a New York City based photographer. Expanding his work to Washington, DC and Europe. He is best noted for his works in architectural, cityscapes, and fine art photography. His work has been widely published in magazines and corporate catalogs.  He documents cities through the lens of his camera by taking photos of famous landmarks and architectures, especially at night when buildings are lit up and glowing like a Christmas tree. Andrew Prokos has one of the most inclusive collections of work made in New York City, which is one of Prokos’s resume highlights.

The final photograph I would like to discuss is taken by Cliff Watts, he’s best-noted for his photo-shoots of celebrities and his works are widely shown, on the magazine “Esquire”. Cliff Watts began his career just strictly as a photographer, but now has expanded his works to motion pictures. He has work with many celebrities such as Taylor Swift, David Beckham, and Mila Kunis, which is shown below.
