Press Photography versus Art Photography

Assignment 2: Press photography versus art photography - 20%

1. The main differences and similarities between art and press photography

Press photography is often used to depict an event that the public or the directed audience should know, usually taken to display an important issue that’s happening around them. The photographs should be able to present to audience the same look and feel as if you were there yourself The purpose of press photography is to exhibit absolutely no emotion of the photographer, giving the audience an accurate representation. On the other art photography is the complete opposite; it allows the photographer to express his very own emotions through his or her photography, usually emotions that relate to the photographer. Find mostly in galleries, homes, giving those types of environments a specific emotion based on the photograph. Press photography produces emotions from real-life events in newspapers, on TV, on the Internet and other forms of media that require factual photographs.

2. Is it ethical and acceptable to alter art photographs? Why? Why not?

Many individuals believe that the process of alternating photographs diminishes the true importance of photography. A type of photography that disregards the true meaning of a stock photograph is Art photography. This allows photographers to alter the photograph accustomed to his/her specific emotion of the photograph. Therefore it is acceptable for photographers to alter their photographs

3. Is it ethical and acceptable to alter press photographs? Why? Why not?

When it comes to press photographs, photographers have specific guidelines and limitations to what part of the photographs they can alter. Alteration of press photographs takes the truth away from the photograph; As a result it won’t give the audience a genuine story when it is an issue that concerns the real-life world.
